CHAPTER SIX

Nolan

From inside shop windows, eyes follow us as we make our way from Owen’s Body Shop back toward my studio. I know telephones all over town will be buzzing with messages, relaying Harmony finally being done avoiding me. My chest puffs with so much pride I could battle Popeye for fastest inflation of muscles. He had his Olive Oyl to impress. I only care about Harmony.

“So, this is me.” The door to Ink Lore isn’t locked. I pull the gleaming brass handle to open it wide and usher her inside. I may not have been worried about securing the premises when I rushed out after seeing Harmony walk by, but it’s automatic to lock the door behind me once I have my precious girl inside.

Not because I’m angling to keep her here if she wants to leave, but because people in Sycamore Mountain take neighborliness to an extreme. If the door isn’t locked and folks know we’re here? Well, I definitely won’t get to show Harmony my etchings. Yeah, I went there.

It’s been a long fucking three months without her. Hell, half of that time was spent healing the surprise I had done for her, and during those weeks I couldn’t even jerk off to the memories of her.

I don’t expect anything to happen today. Honestly, it’s enough she’s not running in the opposite direction from me anymore. That doesn’t mean I won’t be doing everything in my power to steal however much alone time I can get.

“It’s probably a good thing you brought me here this afternoon, Nolan.” Harmony’s standing next to the chair that will be mine.

I showed her the piercing room, as well as all the other nooks that guests artists and tattooers in residence will use. For now, it’s just me and two other artists who will be here. The others will offer some walk-in availability and much shorter waitlists, but my clients are the type who travel to wherever I go. My books are full for over two years at this point.

“Yeah, why is that, sweetheart?”

She’s got a sly little grin I know means she took to heart the offer to tease and torment me.

“Well, a few months ago, I got this tattoo, right? And I think I might not have followed all the aftercare instructions correctly. Maybe, you could take a look?”

Watching her little fingers slip into the waistband of her worn denim shorts has my own jeans feeling several sizes too small. I’m thankful now more than ever the Jacob’s Ladder I had pierced along the underside of my shaft to surprise her has gotten me in the habit of wearing more supportive boxer briefs. If it weren’t for the tight cradle of the athletic style boxers, I’d probably be tearing my dick to shreds with how much it’s fighting to get through my zipper.

“Let me just get a look there.” Every line of binary code inked into the smooth perfection of skin just alongside her left hip is as flawless as the night I’d put it there.
